EuroFloorball Cup 2009: Men's

The player of the final, was without doubt Santtu Manner, who scored all of the SSV goals, the last one being the golden 6-5 goal after 07.17 of the over time.

After four EFC silvers and three EFC bronze medals, SSV´s could finally celebrate their first EFC victory.

Erä had more ball control in the start of the game, but Santtu Manner took SSV to the lead with a really sharp shot on power play. Jani Kukkola evened the score in 12.25 and then it was Erä´s turn to utilize the power play when Lauri Kapanen´s accurate shot found the net. After this Erä took charge of the game and by moving the ball in SSV´s defensive zone they could score one more goal, 3-1 lead for Erä after the first period.

The second period continued in the same manner, Erä possessed the ball and decided the tempo of the game whereas SSV played quite passively. Pasi Laitila increased the Erä lead to 4-1 after which the tempo dropped when Erä was not in a hurry. Then Manner stepped up for SSV and he scored two goals for his team, the second on power play, and took SSV back into the game.

Jani Helenius took Erä to a two goal lead again in the third period, but with less than 10 minutes left of the game SSV started to play more aggressively and particularly SSV´s first line could create good scoring chances.

Especially Manner and Mikael Järvi were unstoppable today. It seemed as if each time this couple got the ball, the ball was soon in the opponent´s net. Manner scored six goals and Järvi gave the assist to four of them.

In Salibandyliiga´s interview Manner is modest about his performance:
- Quite a good day today, but it also required good passes. I missed a break through in the start of the match and came late to the situations, and for a moment I thought that this was not my day.

Manner and Kapanen were elected as best players in the final.

EuroFloorball Cup 2009: Women's

IKSU remained unstoppable throuhgout the tournament as they won also the Final after an intensive match.

The strong first two periods confirmed the victory for IKSU and they took the third EFC victory in the clubs history with 9-5.

In the offensive zone IKSU was clearly the most skilful team in the tournament. The fast moving game with lots of position changes was too hard to defend for the other teams and IKSU was able to create great scoring opportunities to the best shooting sector. As also the shots of the Swedish players were sharp and accurate, this resulted in many goals during the tournament.

IKSU started the final strongly. Their fore checking play was hard for the Dietlikon defenders, usually they pressed the defenders with two forwards. This made the game openings hard for Dietlikon and the game was mostly played in Dietlikon´s defensive zone in the first and second period.

It looked like the match was settled in the second period, when IKSU scored four goals and increased the lead already to 7-2. One of the advantages for IKSU was that they had three lines, which all were able to score and actually the first seven goals were scored by six different players, only Cassandra Edberg succeeded twice.

Even though there was a five goal difference in the beginning of the third period, Dietlikon did not give up. They made some changes to the line-ups and started to press hard. The speed of the game was increased and Dietlikon took the control of the tempo. Dietlikon was able to reduce the lead to 4-7 during power play when Daniela Morf scored her second of the match. But right after that, just when it started to look as if Dietlikon could still have a chance, the strong IKSU forwards stepped out again. Viktoria Wikström and Therese Andersson shot one goal each in a minute and the champion of the tournament was settled.

The best players of the match were Wikström and Simone Berner.

The ultimate poacher, World Class. Won 3 SSL Championships with Warberg and 3 World Champioships with Sweden. Check out his super volley in sudden death here. (check out white #20)

4. Rickie Hyvärinen, Finland, Caperiotaby FC
The stand out player for Finland's World Floorball Championships 2008 Final , scoring 1 assisting 3. Most notably the killer blow sudden death assist to Tero Tittu. (check out white 27). Another example of his super skills against AIK scoring 4 assisting 1. (check out white 27)

World All-Star Team 2008(Forward)
Czech super forward and a key player for Czech's World Floorball Championships 2008 campaign (4th) at home. Point Leader for Swiss Mobiliar League 08/09 with 32 goals, 47 assists.

6. Tero Tiitu, Finland, SSV Helsinki
A powerful all rounder capable of preforming in all out field positions. He was the one that decided the World Floorball Championships 2008 Final (checked out the last goal scored by white #50) against Sweden, slotting in the winning goal in extra time. Some extra reading on Finland's WFC Hero.

Key player for Norway, finishing 6th in World Floorball Championships 2008. The only player in the Top 10 who is not from the four Floorball Powerhouses (Swe, Fin Cze and Swiss)

Another name you shouldn't not know if you play Floorball. The original Super Star of Floorball and he has been in the Top 10 every year since Innebandymagazinet started it. Played in 6 World Championships finals, winning 5 World Floorball Championships gold and a silver, the one with he scored 2 and still lose in 2008. (check out yellow #27)

Key player for Finland's World Floorball Championships 2008 triumph. Just recently transferred from SSV Helsinki to SSL's FC Helsingborg. Yes, the same club Henrik Larsson is playing football for. If we are lucky, we might see them in action if Larsson decides to give it another try. ^^

The PFL fever is still on a high it seems.

The Penang women's state team took on PFL third place position Innebandy! Co. for a friendly on Monday night as they continue to strive towards forming a solid Penang women's team, or Malaysian women's team for that matter.

It was a pretty low profile friendly match that drew minimal crowd into the Balik Pulau stadium. Nonetheless, an exciting match awaits us.

The first period saw the women picking up a fast pace, full press strategy. It almost caught the Innebandiens off guard a couple of times. Innebandy on the other hand, played it rather cool and steady. The women's first line was solid in defence and it proved to be so as Innebandy found it hard to penetrate through and what more with Sharron standing in as keeper, it will be a long night for them. The forwards' played well for the first 10 minutes or so with good fore checking, keeping Innebandy's defenders at bay. Unfortunately for the women, they started off really well but somehow could not keep up with that initial burst of fire. The first period gradually stood one sided as Innebandy took numerous shots at goal, in total 17. Jason scored the first goal followed on by Joshua.

The second half did not show much sign of recovery from the women. Speed has always been one of the major weaknesses for the women's team and it was evident. Innebandy's quick counter attack from defence to forward penetrated their defence more than once. It was also obvious that movement was another major problem for the women's team. Movement isn't something easy to pick up for any team and so it was with the women's team. The forwards were caught standing still many times while the ball is on the go. Nonetheless, it's through matches like these that one learn from mistakes. The second period ended with surprisingly, no goals conceded by the women's team. Instead, they scored one against Innebandy! Thanks to the Ng sisters' combination - Sarah and Sheryn.

The third period saw the women's team coming in with a different spirit. The women stepped on court with a renewed vigour as they press up high with very good fore checking. At the other end, we saw a change in goalkeeper as Sharron stepped out and Suleen stepped in. Suleen displayed numerous spectacular saves that could have put the Innebandy forwards to shame. Small as is, she proved to be a solid goalkeeper with her reflexes. However, again the women repeated their 1st period mistake, which was to drop their spirit. This gave several openings for Innebandy to launch their attack and they made it count. Ephraim, Nicholas and Joshua all scored in the final period, giving Innebandy a comfortable 5-1 win.

Man of the match:
For the women's team, Penny stood out with her outstanding defensive instinct. She was as solid as any men out there with her body check and cool control. She also made several laudable attacks, taking chances with her shots. She proved worthy of wearing the captain's armband as she leads this team to greater heights!

As for Innebandy, it was a simple pick. Joshua stood out. This guy chase for every ball like a bull. Hard runner, persistent and take chances at goal. Scoring two goals and assisting one, he definitely caught our eyes. Another "rising star", maybe?

On behalf of BBF, we would like to further encourage the Penang Women State team to continue their effort in improving themselves, the team and the floorball scene amongst women. You have the whole Penang floorballers behind you! Keep it up! :)

Best player:
To name Ter Min as the Best Player for Ztec 8cers isn't something unexpected. Topping the point chart with 22 points certainly speaks volume. However, it was the consistency of his performance that stands him out amidst the crowded team of star players.

Jeremy came close with a shout but Ter Min got the final nod due to his all round display. Offence or defence, the lad is deadly all over the court. Not only does he have a keen eye on goal, his much improved vision allows him to release his team mates into goal scoring opportunities, making him even harder to contain.


Borak says:
The Champions of PFL '09! Who don't expect them to grab that Gold medal? Even from the beginning, most teams trembled when they hear the name Ztec. With players that they have, it is obviously a threat to all teams who are aiming for the jackpot.

They came in strong crushing their opponents without mercy except for the Mighty Spartans who managed the grab a point and almost a win. Winning the first game against team Contact ('08 Champions) which such a margin has definitely boost their confidence and team spirit which carries through the end of the league.

With their solid team play and technique superiority, they entertained all present with exciting play ups and creative free hits which sometimes makes their opponents look silly. Its hard to play against a team who moves the ball so smoothly and accurately.

However, with the amount of quality and talent they have at disposal, there are times they lack the spark and creativity to open up stubborn defences. This happens especially when they are too eager to attack, the forwards tend to wander too far high and lack mobility rendering the defenders no options to pass to. At the same time, it leaves a huge gap in the centre leading to dangerous counter-attacks by the opponent.

Overall, they were the most entertaining, most threatening, most unwelcome-by-goalies and most consistent throughout the league, and deserving crowned Champions of Penang Floorball League Division 1 2009.
