About Us

What is Borak-Borak Floorball?

Borak-Borak Floorball (BBF) was initiated by a group of three avid floorballers from Penang, Malaysia. The interest sparked off due to a certain passion for the sport and a keen desire to share that passion to others. With that, came the idea of 'borak-borak'.

What does the term "Borak-Borak" actually mean?

"Borak-borak" is a Malaysian lingo that equates to the English word "chit-chat". The phrase is commonly used and has somewhat the power to identify one's identity as a Malaysian. BBF is passionate to 'chit-chat' about the happenings and events of floorball, first in Penang and then the other parts of Malaysia. With that in mind, Borak-Borak Floorball came into existence.

Who are we?

BBF comprises mainly of three suspects under the pseudonyms of Jose, Bendy and Spritzer. However, BBF has also taken in hired-for-free reporters in their effort to cover as many grounds as possible.

NOTE: BBF is not an official website to any organization or governing body. We are merely a group of passionate floorballers who seek to share this passion to others. We strive to be courteous, neutral and honest in our opinions, thoughts, reviews and analyses.

Our vision?

BBF sought to 'talk big' and 'talk much' about floorball. We hope to represent the floorball community in Penang as well as the nation, Malaysia, in the bigger picture. We want to be a voice for floorball in the present and future generation, a voice to be heard not for recognition but for the ultimate growth and development of floorball in Malaysia.

Best player:
Don Shakir

Don stood out for all the right reasons.
Small yet physically strong.
Young yet matured understanding of the game.
It's a refreshing sight to see young players rising up from such tender age. Don is definitely one of these young guns.

His composure is beyond his age for sure. He never seemed to panic when he's being pressured by opponents. The jitters never even came close to cause an itch on him. His understanding and vision for the game is another plus point. He always look out for his team mates; his sense of awareness is always intact. Placed as a defender, his positioning really isn't too bad at all. He seemed to make the right calls at the right time - backtrack when he was suppose to and commit when he was suppose to - an intuitive and natural defender.

Having all that qualities, it's safe to say that Don is a future floorballer, a true floorball player. Though it's obvious he looses out on in physique and technical skills, it's just something that requires him to be patient because sooner or later, he will get there. No doubt about that.

Throughout the league, he had been quite consistent with his style of play. In fact, he is one of the very few players in Contact Bullets to stay consistent throughout. Others seemed to have "mood swings". His partnership with another young gun, Lim Kai Sheng, seemed to be growing stronger after each game. Kai Sheng, who also shone occasionally, along with Don, could make out a formidable partnership in the defense of Contact Bullets.

Both are still young, which means they have more time and opportunity to pick up the pieces.

Borak says:
Contact Bullets was made up by a bunch of young guns who were well trained by the State/ National coach and with that, they were expected to mount serious challenge on the title, or at least get a medal.

They failed the to be the champ but did in the end, win the silver medal not after facing some fair share of roller coaster rides.

They started of with a signal of intent by thumping Firebrands. Bullets, like hot blade over butter, craved open the newbie's defences with their superior techniques and positioning, scoring 8 without reply.

When we thought they will be on the run, doing the same against a reshuffled 300, they slumped, into deep slumber. Not just bad finishing. they surrender the crucial centre to 300, crumbling in defeat.

Their third against the mighty Falcons, it was thought to be the nail in the coffin, sealing of the title race. Yet, who would have known that Falcons would concede a walkover, gifting Bullets the much needed lift.

They did suffered a worthy defeat against a much much superior opponent and to the eventual champions, Phoenix but bounced back with strong wits against Griffins, winning by a goal.

Bullets proved to be a team full of potential, but unlike others, they are well nurtured with the essence of floorball. It is fair to say that they were the only team that played real floorball. However, like all others, they too struggle to overcome the "inconsistency bug".

No rush though.
With time on their side, under professional guidance, it would be a matter of time before these young guns take shape into a mature team.
Keep it up!!!

Player Rating: Contact Bullets vs Ztec Griffins

5 = world class
4 = superb
3 = good
2 = ok ok
1 = bad

Contact Bullets:
Gk:
Shuan Ong 2
Debut game for the keeper and a decent game. Didn't do much, using his body to full effectiveness, covering all the spaces. Though his fumbles near cost him some troubles. Keep it up.

Lawrence 2
Came in for Shuan and was decent. Still having problems with ball handling. More training.

Defenders:
Lim Khai Sheng 3
Superd game by the defender. Was surprisingly calm compared to previous games and was seen dribbling pass opponents with eased and a much improved forward passing game help initial attacks.

Don Shakir 3
Was firm as usual but was overshadowed by Khai Sheng who performed exceptionally well. Both would have a good partnership in years to come.

Joseph Oon 2

Ang Kim Beng 2

Attackers:
Ian Khor 3
Finally, back on the score sheet with 2 goals. The forward has used his pace with great effectiveness by bursting into scoring positions. Now, is to maintain the consistency.

Sheryn Ng 3
Her speed maybe a drawback but her experience is still invaluable to the team. with pacey forwards around her, she tend to turn into a provider, supplying the forwards with ammo for shots.

Isaac Ng 2

Benjamin Lim 2

Hai Chin 2

Isaac Ng 3
The boy is a willing running with decent ball handling. Have slowly settled into the game and capped the last match with a nice dragged goal. Good game.

Joshua Wong 2

Ztec Griffins:
Gk:
Leo Nard 2
The keeper has seen a dipped in form in decent games and letting in goals. Partly due to his lack of basic techniques, partly due to the rotating of defenders. More hard work Captain.

Defenders:
Gim Hoong 2
Credit for working hard in defense and attempts up front but much to learn about defensive positioning as the boy keeps dropping to deep down leaving a big gap for forwards to exploit.

Brandon Pereira 2
Decent game as well, but like his partner, need to work on the positioning senses. Slightly more threatening in offense with his shots. Both have great potential to go further. Keep it up.

Ruth Chua 2

Yi Min 2

Wayne Tan 2

Attackers:
Amos Lim 4
A one man show. It was almost a match between Bullets and Amos. The centre, like a man possessed was running crazily all around pressuring Bullets, dropping back to support defenses, he performance for the night even without the 3 goals was peerless.

Dominic Ewe 2

Jia Yen 2

Yuh Ting 2

Amelia 2

Match Review: A Thrilling Encounter, When Speed Meets Technique

1328 2-2 Isaac Ng

Second Period:
2202 3-3 Amos Lim

Bench Penalties:
Contact Bullets 2mins x 4
Ztec Griffins 2mins x 2

This fixture was a crucial match for Contact Bullets as a win over Ztec Griffins was necessary to allow them to have any chance of getting the silver medal. Against a moody Ztec Griffins, it was a blur what kind of challenge and opponent Bullets was going to face.

They soon found out.
The match faced off with both teams eager to draw first blood. It was end to end action from both sides. Amos, Ztec Griffins' Energizer Bunny was fully charged for the night, his persistent running, going for every ball created problems for Bullets who were still finding their feet in the opening minutes.

Amos's effort earn them a penalty shot when Kim Beng, Bullets' unlucky defender was spotted playing inside the crease. But Gim Hoong who was assigned for the task couldn't convert it. An early scare for Bullets.

Griffins were soon buried in regret for that penalty miss as their forwards effort seemed fruitless. To make things worse, Bullet surprised them with a bite at goal as Don dispatched a neat pass down the flanks to a running Isaac Ng who was in a tight angle, crossed the ball towards goal, finding Ian who coolly converted it.

1-0 to Bullets who have suck in all the pressure by Griffins and hit them hard on the counter.

Nevertheless, Amos continued to lead Griffins. This time, their hard work paid off.

Bullets were found guilty for an incorrect kick, conceding a dangerous free hit just outside the crease and Amos who was quick on the spot, powered it directly towards the goal driving it past an unprepared wall, equalising the scoreline.

1-1.
The boy took full advantage of a confused defence who were slow to form a wall.

Celebration was soon cut short when the equalising hero, Amos, was sent off for a lying play. The goal must have gotten to his head.

However, the wasteful Bullets who could penetrate with an extra man advantage find themselves with the same fate as Griffins when Sheryn, who was slow to avoid a quick free hit taken by Griffins, was sent to the bench for incorrect distance.

Griffins wasn't ready to let the chance pass them as they torment Bullets with shots but Bullets was equal to the task and kept them out. But not for long. Amos, once again was spot on to received Amelia pass the down the left, he unleashed his shot.

Goal.
1-2.
Griffins were on the lead.

The goal seemed to be a wake up call to the trailing Bullets, who were by far superior in all areas but struggling in finding their rhythm. Almost immediately after Amos's goal, Isaac Ng forced Brandon into a mistake as his clearance found its way to Isaac Ng, and without a second invitation, the boy drifted in towards the shooting zone, buried a lethal wrist shot past Leo Nard.

2-2.
Bullets were back again.

Riding on their momentum, possession shifted and it was now Bullets who were in control and they quickly added another to the scoreline. Sheryn, receiving a pass from her defence, launched a counter. Seeing Ian who was zooming up for support, she laid off a nice pass for the forward who didn't disappoint, slotting home a cool finish past a helpless Leo Nard. Bullets, oozing with confidence after the equaliser, showed great movement in opening up the Griffins defence.
Nice play.

3-2 going into the half.

What an unlucky start for the Bullets seconds after the restart with their key defender, Don, sent off for incorrect distance. A huge setback for Bullets who crawlled their way back in the first period but now having to defend their slim lead with one man down so early into the half.

There was certainly no change in Griffins' game plan after the break as they came out raring to go. Taking advantage of the power play, Griffins came close in numerous occasions. Brandon, now a regular free hit taker for the team, keeps powering his shots wide and high; Yuh Ting came the closest when a searching cross court pass found her, only for her finishing to deny her a goal as the shot was direct onto the keeper chest, an easy save.

Both camps were counting the seconds, the two minutes was almost up, Don was ready to come back in. The precipitating Amos, once again, sprung out from the left, dribbling past Bullets defender and then fired the ball. Awkwardly, the shot that seemed like a miss hit, miraculously crept through the keepers leg and into the net.

3-3.
Bullets 3, Amos 3.
A hattrick.
Definitely a huge blow to Bullets who held on almost to the end but only to be undone by a lapse of concentration. A brilliant run and a fluke goal.
Luck can be a harsh thing.

The agony was almost relief when Sheryn, wandering unmarked in the centre received a pass, but missed by just a fraction. Griffins survived.

The game was getting more balanced out with both teams hitting out on each other. Bullets looked the fancier side with their slick movements and passing but often without an end product. While Griffins, with Amos off steam, sat back deep looking to hit Bullets on the counter.

Then came the most feared curse of Div 2 - the incorrect distance foul.
This time, it was Griffins' Gim Hoong who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. With their key man out of the frame, Griffins was helpless in stopping the rampant Bullets.

Isaac Ang was first to react, getting hold of a loose ball downt he right, a swift turn into the middle and before the charging defender managed to close him down, the boy's release his shot pass the keeper.

4-3.
Bullets are ahead.

Griffins are now to chase the leader. And like any other game, they reacted positively every time they trail in a game. They pressed on.

Amos almost became the saviour for the forth time in the game when his low shot almost, for the second time, went through the keeper's legs. Brandon, with his free hit forced Bullets' keeper a few saves as well and caused havoc in front of goal too. Gim Hoong once again pushed forward in the dying minutes, shooting at will. All this to no avail.

Final score, 4-3.
A nail bitting experience but nevertheless a sweet victory for Bullets who are now surely in for a medal.

Shouts of joy and relief were heard as Contact Bullets managed to get a win which would secure them 2nd place if Ztec Phoenix were to defeat Frontliners 300. It will now be up to Ztec Phoenix to decide on how the table will look like this coming Saturday(14th Mar). The league is coming to an end and the excitement and competition is getting more and more intense.

Will Frontliners 300 be able to defeat the so far undefeated Phoenix?
Will Mikey be able to find a way pass the experience Yung Ming?
We shall see.

Contact Bullets:
This match clearly shows why Contact are one of the most organized teams in Penang. Some of the movement and play up were superb tonight. There were some nice exchanges between top and bottom; several penetrative plays amongst the forwards. Definitely a well trained team. Having the State coach as their mentor, they should be!

Defensive wise, maybe they could have done better with the free hit, but there other two were scored by Griffins through sheer pace and strength, nothing much the young Bullets can do about.

Technically and tactically superior than all the other teams in Div 2. Bullets only concern is consistency. These young players, who at times show much potential can also show a lot of inconsistency in their individual play as well. Tonight, Bullets were able to produced the goods to secure them the victory. Next time? Hmmm...

MoM:
Lim Khai Sheng.
This boy showed why he is one of the best defenders in the league together with his partner, Don Shakir.

Both had an impressive game against Ztec Griffins. But tonight, it was Khai Sheng who outshined his partner.

The boy showed great composure in stopping every attack that was coming his way. Move the ball intelligently around the court and basically produced a flawless display in defence for Contact Bullets in this match. At such a young age, he will have a bright future in floorball if he continues to progress at this rate. Impressive stuff!

Ztec Griffins:
Ztec Griffins is still a very young team. There is nothing technical nor tactical to discuss about the team. However, Griffins has, at times shown tremendous courage going all out in giving their opponents a hard time on court.

Bullets definitely got a scare playing against Griffins tonight, equalising twice. However, their speed couldn't match up with their finishing as the latter let them down in several occasions. Other than that, they have no other option to penetrate the defence.

So, next up in their syllabus, techniques.
Passing, shooting and ball control.

MoM:
Amos Lim. He ran the show from start to end giving his all for his team as if he was playing contact all by himself.

His constant high forechecking gave defenders a hard time as he never loses heart in getting the ball back for the team.

Though he does not possess good ball control, but he shows plenty of energy on court be it going forward or in defence. He is everywhere! Though in a high level game, it can be a good thing and also a bad thing as you are not required to run all over the place.

Nevertheless, he impressed throughout the game as was like a man on a solo mission and in the end, gotten himself a hatrick. He's an Energizer Bunny with limitless battery. One to be mould for the future.

Match Preview: The Final Countdown

Contact Bullets vs Ztec Griffins

Date: 3rd March 2009 (Tuesday)
Face-off Time: 7.45pm
Venue: Dalat International School

The Penang Floorball League Division 1 is finally drawing to a close. For Bullets and Griffins, this match will be their final match for PFL 2009. It will be a show-hand match, giving every bit that's left on this court in this game. No more second chances and no more turning back. Soon, PFL 2009 will just be a shimmering past.

By far, this match is more crucial to Bullets than for Griffins. With Bullets rather shaky position in the second spot of the table, they MUST win this game. They cannot afford to draw nor lose if they want to stand a chance to come in second in the league - No more, no less. Their closest rival, Dalat Falcons, are closing down on them real fast. If they win with a big margin, then Falcons will have a hard time topping them over. As of now, the situation still remains 50-50.

Griffins on the other hand are fighting all out for pride sake. They have had a disappointing run in the league so far coming in fifth in the table. However, what can be said of them is their persevering effort in every game regardless of how technically or tactically weaker they may be. Although they may not be contending for a medal in this upcoming match, unlike the Bullets, they will definitely make it a gruelling battle. It wouldn't be that easy to rub off the Griffins.

With a team lacking tremendously in speed, Bullets will need to rely solely on two things - experience and tactical play. They possess both of these qualities but leaving out another crucial mix - consistency. Bullets took off really well in the league but seemed to deteriorate thereafter. They've been plagued by inconsistency in performance and their lack of acceleration and speed is also an obvious weak link that has definitely made things a whole lot tougher for them. Being in a division with the likes of speedy teams such as Phoenix and Dalat, it's a real blow in the face. They will need to play real tight as a team to go up against Griffins, a team that's considerably fast as well. With key players like Sherene leading the attacking line, they will need to make every single shot count.

We've seen Griffins latest match against the Falcons last Tuesday, a match that has in a way shed some light to us in terms of their strength and their weakness. Griffins strong asset may well be their biggest liability - their confidence. In the game against Dalat, we saw them earning a 2-0 lead. They were intoxicated with confidence, which may have gotten a little too high up their heads, resulting in a backlash of 6 goals from the Falcons. Their mental strength is still low and understandably so, considering the fact that they are a pretty new team. But as mentioned earlier, confidence could be their key point. They need to learn to focus and not get distracted by taking the lead, getting too complacent and then giving in to a defensive play. They need to want to own the court.

It's the final league match for both teams. It will be a fight till' the end, one filled with passion we reckon.
Expect a stronghold of support from both teams as well.
What a better way to end the final game with the thumping of cheers and supports from the audience.

Key Player:
Contact Bullets:
Ian Khor. Although this boy and his mates were firing blanks against Phoenix, but they still displayed much desire and determination throughout the game and they didn't go down without a wrestle.

Ian, with his pace, should find himself creating more opportunities than the previous game, it is up to his own finishing and sufficient support from his team mates to see that chances are taken.

He is one of the more technical forwards found in Division 2 and on his day he can be a handful for any defender. Having said that, his form has been up and down throughout the league. Hopefully we will be able to see him perform in the last game of the league this time around.

Ztec Griffins:
Amos Lim.
The centre impressed us in the previous game with his work ethics. Though he lacks technical ability but this guy makes it up with his hardworking attitude as well as his consistency getting into good positions on court, putting pressure on the defenders.

Against Bullets, he'll once again be called upon to battle in the centre. He will lead the Griffins in their quest of getting forward and hopefully getting a goal or 2 for his team.

Predictions:
Bendy:
300's bubble has final burst, only managing a draw which leaves the medal places other than gold up for grabs.

Bullets will have the biggest say for sliver, a win would be the guarantee, anything less will open up for 300 or maybe even Falcons.

The morale of Bullets after the poor game against Phoenix, must have surely been boosted hearing the news of Saturday match. Now the initiative is back in their hands. With their squad, it should be a win, the forwards worked hard against Phoenix, against their lesser juniors, goals are expected to come.

However, history from time to time, has proven, nothing is certain in the game of Floorball. Griffins might be pitch down below, one point above Firebrand who spoiled 300's party, has should their battling spirits in games which were deemed to be lose. Their determination and tenacity often surprises opponents, catching them off guard. Yet, they lack the consistency due too inferior fitness and squad depth.

The game of sports is so fascinating, the adrenaline rush, the unpredictability and the emotion volatility that comes with it. My facts points me towards a Bullets' win but my heart wishes for a twist, in a way, making the league more entertaining and dramatic. I bet the crowd would love it!

Jose:
I'm expecting a tight encounter when both these teams meet tonight. Contact Bullets form has been consistently inconsistent, but on their day these players can play well together. Ztec Griffins on the other hand has displayed amazing never say die attitude and are never easy to play against.

My predictions will be for Contact to get a slim victory over Ztec Griffins, because Bullets are sharper in attacks compared to the Griffins. This match should be a fast paced match having fast players on both sides. Contact will have to 'wake up' and be firing on all cylinder to ensure them a silver medal.

5 = world class
4 = superb
3 = good
2 = ok ok
1 = bad

Ztec Phoenix:
Gk:

Defenders:
Siu Keong 2

Jack Lee 2

Attackers:
Adrian Koay 3
Mr. Consistent again was at his usual self. Firm and tough in the middle, and against slower opponents, had more dribbling in the centre than usual.

Calvindav 2
Had a few scoring chances but loss his head a bit when Bullets were pushing hard. Lucky to went off unpunished.

Samuel Ong 3
A constant threaten down the flanks. As his zoomed forward like a typical winger causing some problems for the defenders. Capped a decent performance with a goal.

Teik Hong 2

Scored the final goal for his team. Like his assister, loss a bit of cool near the end.

Daniel Tan 2
Was bright up front, came out redeeming himself with a goal seconds after he finished his bench penalty for a silly high stick.

Contact Bullets:
Gk:
Lawrence 2
Woeful goalkeeping. Unlucky goals aside, barely save any. More training before the last match to boost his confidence.

Defenders:
Don Shakir 3
The boy fought hard to halt Phoenix’s forward with some nice blocks. And when he had the ball, was calm and possess the vision to make quality passes up front rather than blind clearances.

Lim Khai Sheng 2
Decent game but unlucky to be at the wrong place and the wrong time as he deflected 2 goals pass hi s own goalie.

Joseph Oon 2

Attackers:
Sheryn Ng 2
Other than the goal scored from the keeper’s fumble, she was unable to craved open clear cut shooting chances as the defenders were quick to close her down.

Made his pace into good use but lacking in the final touch as he lack support from his team mates. Good effort though.

Isaac Ang 3

The bigger the anticipation, the bigger the disappointment.
That was what summed up last Saturday’s encounter between the top dog and the chasing pack.

It was deemed to be a close fight between Phoenix and Bullets, with the league leaders maximizing their pace against Bullets’s slow defence while the Bullets to counter with their more technically accomplished forwards. But my my, it turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Rumours spread regarding Bullets' fear of not having their first choice goalie, Lawrence, around. Luckily for them, we refrained the temptation of publishing unproven gossips as the goalie was one of the earliest players to arrive at the Dalat gym.

With the rumours squashed, a full strength Bullets just might have a slim chance to create an upset against the so far unbeatable Ztec Phoenix. However, it was not to be.

Both teams started off the match with much intent and purpose compared to their earlier matches as they know that a win and nothing less is required. The tempo was pretty decent with the ball moving quickly as both teams try to draw first blood.

3 minutes into the match, it was Phoenix who found the net. Siu Keong who wander up front, took a back hand shot after receiving a neat pass from Adrian. And it was a series of unfortunates for Bullets as the low ball crept through the legs on Lawrence and into the back of the net.

1-0 for Phoenix.

Phoenix continued to press high after the restart while the Bullets appeared a bit shaken by the goal, failed to recover. The defenders were slow to cover Samuel’s drag and lightning stroke twice in the space of one minute as to Lawrence horror , the ball crept through his legs.
Again.

With 2 goals down Bullets were forced to come out chasing, Phoenix however, was not about to rest their laurels. Their runs always seemed threatening but lacking in accuracy, until luck interfere.
This time it was the defender, Khai Sheng who was unfortunate. The boy was at the wrong place when Adrian’s attempt which seems harmless, caught his leg and the deflection left Lawrence stranded.

3 goals down, Bullets certainly have nothing to lose now and they went charging around the court, pressuring Phoenix.

Their die hard effort although seems unproductive, won them a free hit in Phoenix's half. It was rather a tight angle but somehow, Isaac Ang, desperate shot flew pass Yung Ming’s near post like a missle without him flinching.
The Bullets clawed one back!

The hall errupted as the supporters went ecstatic as they cheer on their team.

3-1.
A surprisingly one-sided half dominated by Phoenix.

The game restarted and both teams seems on fire after the prep talk as they came out with renewed vigour, increasing the tempo of the game.

It was once again Phoenix that had the upper hand in terms of luck with lighting striking twice, they conceded 47 seconds into the half. Siu Keong who was freely roaming forward, unleashed a shot from the centre and to Khai Sheng’s dismay, deflected the shot once again past his own goalie.

Lady luck was definitely on Phoenix's side seeing how they pinballed their way for fifth goal. Adrian drifted from the right, shook off his marker and released his trademark drag. The shot, like an adept musician, composed a brief metal clinging melody, hitting the crossbar twice before bouncing into the net.

4 goals down and still 15 minutes to go, surely there will be no comeback now.
Bullets must be hoping the game would end now.

Almost immediately after Phoenix scored their 5th goal, Danial was given a 2 minute penalty for high stick. This was a good time for Contact Bullets to capitalize on the powerplay situation, but their constant bombardment was to no avail as the shots were off target and the stray pass was not met with a finish.

They were soon punished. Daniel jump back on to the court after serving his penalty and was immediately in action. A long clearance from the defenders found its way to the sneaky forward, catching the Bullets off guard. Lawrence sensing the danger, came out charging but failed to close him down as the boy slotted a low ball pass him.

It was misery for the keeper having to pick the ball of his net six times in the match and it was not going to be his last.

Seventh heaven for Phoenix and disaster for Lawrence as his defense’s failure to muscle out Phoenix in the shooting zone, saw Kelvin capitalising on it from close range as Phoenix scores past him the seventh time.

The Bullets did however, got another consolation goal when Sheryn pounce onto a goalie fumble form Yung Ming whose weak interception gifted her a free goal.

Final Score 7-2.

Ztec Phoenix:
Another win for the league leaders and another step towards the title.
It was a much more convincing performance by the champions-in-making as they comfortably thumped sluggish Bullets.

For once, Phoenix started off with real intent. They pressed hard and high early on and were rewarded with goals as Bullets succumbed to mistakes. Adrian and Co. were drifting around the court with great ease as Bullets were left chasing shadows. Their penetrative runs combined with unconvincing goalkeeping by Lawrence and the blessing of luck saw goals flowing in like running water.

With Bullets constantly pinned in their half, the defenders found themselves a little bit too carefree and decided to wander forward. Their adventurous attempt saw them scoring one but gifted the Bullets a consolation goal. A luxury they can afford to concede with their healthy lead.

One game left for Phoenix. Against 300, the surprise package of Div 2. A win for 300 in their upcoming match, will see both teams going into their final game tie in points, making their it a winner-takes-all final showdown

Hopefully all goes well for 300 so we'll a game worth looking forward to and a treat of dramatic stuffs!

MoM:
Adrian Koay. Again.

It was a hard call to make as Phoenix were on auto cruise everyone was having a decent game, non particularly impressive but the captain once again with his work rate, had a slight edge over his teammates.

He didn't particularly shine out but it was his crucial role as a leader as well as his enthusiasm on court that made a difference for the team.

Contact Bullets:
Outplayed; out of focus; out of luck and out of the title race.
That was what summed up Bullet’s match on Sat.

Bullets went into the match knowing that they need nothing less than a win, they attempted to push on early but Phoenix proved too hot to be meddled with.

The keeper who seemed barely awake and together with his butter fingers and some serious bad luck saw him conceding goals after goals. Goals went bouncing in from his blocks, some going through his legs, a brace from his defenders deflection, another one awkwardly off his helmet.

As for the players, as hard as they tried, there was no stopping the rampant Phoenix as they constantly find themselves tracking back and in occasions when they failed, leaving the keeper exposed.

When they pushed forward, attackers like Ian and Benjamin, although managed to bring the ball up with their pace, were isolated and support often arrived a wee bit too late for them to create any goal scoring opportunity. The Bullets did however, had a period of domination over the Phoenix who were slowing down.

They still failed to convert anymore more goals other than the 2.

MoM:
Don Shakir.
For a defensive line that was penetrated seven times, selecting a defender as the MoM may raise some eye brows. But this boy was impressive throughout and caught our attention with his vision and composure, which is even rare amongst the senior players.

The boy was a tireless worker behind, chasing down incoming forwards, forcing them to tight angles, minimizing their threats. While he has the ball, he calmly controls the possession and always looks up for a pass. A solid and mature performance beyond his age.

This player is definitely one to watch out for in the years to come.

Match Preview: Lucky Bullets Eyeing For Phoenix's Top Spot

Ztec Phoenix vs Contact Bullets

Date: 28th Feb 2009 (Saturday)
Face-off Time: 11am
Venue: Dalat International School

It has been 9 games since the start of the league; 8 played, 1 walkover. And after 3 rounds for each team, Phoenix has positioned themselves at the top with Bullets and 300 sniffing from behind.

The air is pervaded by intensity as the league draws to a close. A goal scored, a mistake made, a missed pass, anything and everything counts from now on. It will determine where each team would stand on Mar 17th.

For now, Phoenix may be leading the pack with 2 points clear ahead of their closest and unexpected rivals. We were anticipating Falcons to go head on with Phoenix, but they failed to impressed and imposed. After a lost to Phoenix, they suffered another major setback by conceding a walkover. Disappointing stuff.

One's loss is another's gain. A gain for the Bullets as they propelled to second spot, with the free goals, ahead of another unexpected guest on the top half, 300 with better goal difference.

Phoenix may secure a medal but gold is still up for grabs as the top 3 still have games amongst themselves which will and can deviate the course of the league in coming weeks.

Back to the match ahead:
Phoenix, although on a winning streak, has shown signs of complacency. Other teams might not have capitalised on that but Firebrands didn't need a second invitation as they scored 3 goals passed them. For a team sitting at the bottom who has only scored one, to score 3 against the top team who has only let in one coming into the game, something is definitely wrong somewhere.

Tactically? Mentally? It's up to Bullets to find out and crack them if they want to come out with a win this Sat.

That aside, Bullets also have some concerns to overcome. They have not been tested against the top teams since the start of the league. Firebrands was a bunch of beginners, 8 goals is nothing to brag about; 300 was a 50/50 and the better finisher took the points that day and Falcons went kite flying. This Sat is their first real test against a strong team!

They might be the only team that plays tactical floorball but their lacking in speed and physique will be their shortcoming. Furthermore, the walkover meant that they played one game less and with league match played weekly, a weeks rest will be a drawback for maintaining match fitness. The blazing Phoenix might proved to be too hot for them to handle.

Key Player:
Ztec Phoenix:
Yes, it is Adrian Koay again. Who else but Capt Reliable?

He and Mike(Frontliners 300) has been by far the most consistent players in Div 2. Both have been the core force of their teams and at time, single handedly lead their teams to victory.

Adrian, the less flamboyant of the two has quietly work his magic in Phoenix, always popping out of no where to lift the team with against stubborn opponent, it is no surprise to see him tie on top of the point league with Michael, 5 goals a piece.

The centre has decent positioning awareness and work ethic. With his presence in the middle of the park, Phoenix is a tough nut to crack and a deadly counter attacking machine, only for the woeful finishing to disappoint them. Against a not so fast defensive line, a few goals is expected.

Contact Bullets:
Sheryn Ng might be Bullets' best forward, but our pick for the match will be Ian Khor. Why?

The hattrick hero although fired blanks against 300, was pretty lively on the court and got into good scoring positions. It was either missing the incoming pass or missing the goal complete.

There is no doubt Phoenix will be coming out charging at them, but this will leave some gap in the middle for counter attacks. This is where the boy's pace come in handy. See the space, make a run, finish with a pass or a shot, you might never now what will happen.

If Phoenix continues there woeful defending, it wouldn't be surprise if they concede more than 3 this time around and I'm pretty sure Ian will get onto the score sheet. Go score some goals!

Predictions:
Bendy:
Pheonix are the only team with 100% winning record. 3 in a row, scoring 13 while conceding only4 in the process. While Bullets faded after their impressive start, having loss to 300. The game against Falcons was not in their favour but lady luck smile upon them and now they see thier medal hopes alive again.

The Bullets might have gotten away win an easy win on Tues but Phoenix will be a totally different story. Pitting the pacey young adults of Phoenix against slow teenagers of Bullets, no house run! My money is on Phoenix to outrun and outplay the Bullets romping away with an easy win.

That is if Phoenix pull themselves up from the bad fumble against Firebrands. If they decide to repeat their generosity, I tell you, the greedy Bullets will not be so easily satisfy with 3 goals!

Jose:
Both teams will be going all out to win this crucial match as this match will play a part in determining how both these teams will end their respective season. This is one of the matches in Div 2, which i would love to watch.

When comparing the players from both teams, Phoenix does hold an advantage over Contact. The players from Ztec are much faster when compared to the players from Contact Bullets. Phoenix, who is looking to go unbeaten this season will face a stern test against Contact Bullets, who is coached under Kenny and Edward. However, the coaches from Contact should have something up their sleeves on how to play the top team in Div 2. We will soon find out on Saturday morning.

In my opinion, Contact Bullets have be quite inconsistent thus far. They played really well with good movement and good passing in the first game, but was literally "sleeping" throughout their 2nd game, resulting in a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Frontliners 300. Hence the question in my head right now is: "Which type of Bullets will turn up for this saturday showdown?" The Contact Bullets i saw on the first game or the sleepy Bullets on the second game?

My predictions will be for Ztec to win this match by 3 goals or more. Hopefully, the boys and girls from Contact will be able to raise their standard of play against a better team.

Bullets vs Falcons: The Walkover Interview with the Man Behind the Rink

Contact Bullets vs Dalat Falcon.
The game was never played.

Why?

To answer this question, we've managed to get hold of Dalat Falcon's Coach, Jason Selva, to give us some insights on what happened.
Find out more below:

BBF: Borak Borak Floorball
JS: Jason Selva - Dalat Falcons' Coach

BBF: We heard that you're conceding a walk-over in your upcoming match, is that true? Why?

JS: Yes, we are conceding a walk-over for the match between Dalat and Contact.

Dalat comes up with their school semester calendar right when we get back from the holidays. It's rather difficult for us to pre-plan games dates and PFA has done an excellent job scheduling all the Div 2 games.

Unfortunately, for us it just so happens that week is the beginning of our Missions Emphasis Program and all the Dalat teachers and students will be involved in that.

Contact Floorball Club very graciously tried to accommodate us by trying several alternative dates but it we couldn't work out the shortage of players for both teams.

After trying several times, we finally decided it was easier to concede the game and work hard at the rest of the games we had coming up.

BBF: Dalat has been noted from the start as one of the top teams to beat, how do you think this walk-over will affect your campaign in this league?

JS: Dalat has a great team and we've always tried to put together a team that can work together fairly well.

Due to the scheduling of the Division 1 and 2 games for the year in light of APAC it ha worked to Dalat's disadvantage.

All our players who are meant to be in the Div 1 league will not be around when June rolls around because they all leave for their respective countries for the summer vacations. So we've had to put them all in Div 2 for 2 years running which has been demoralizing, even though they made it through to Div 1 after the last PFA League.

So to balance the team out a little and make it more challenging, I put in a brand new goalkeeper. Our goalie has been playing as long as the 2009 Div 2 league has been going on for.

BBF: How will this affect the morale of your players?

JS: As for the effects of the walk-over, I think it's affected me more than it has the players. I seem to feel that I'm always at the losing end of things when it comes to fighting this battle for Dalat Floorball.

It will affect us in the long run because we have a brand new goalie but I also know that our Dalat players will do their best no matter what. So, it really doesn't matter now.

We'll play our best and give it our all and who knows what the outcome will be. Maybe we might still have a chance at the top positions.

BBF: If the game were to be played, who do you think would have won? And why?

JS: I think that if we had played we would have had a chance to win, but I say that cautiously because again it comes back to our goalie.

Our first game against Frontliners we had our full team playing and although we allowed 2 goals I think in the first half, we still came back and won the game.

However for our second game we were playing with a group of defenders as most of our forwards were away in Kuala Lumpur for a soccer tournament that weekend and we lost to ZTEC Phoenix 4-1. I must say that they did play an excellent game, very meticulous and persistent. So, I guess that's as vague an answer as it gets.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As it's BorakBorak protocol/tradition, our very own "experts" also generously contributed their 2 cents worth on the walkover and how it will affect the league as a whole:

Bendy:
What a waste. It was one of the more anticipated matches in my books as both are genuine medal contenders.

Both teams have strength and weakness to counter each other. Contact with shooters everywhere which I feel they would have gotten a few goals agains Dalat's inexperience goalie. But their physique will be much capitalised by the Dalat's attackers, they too will be able to power through some goals. It would have been a tight match.

Now, with the walkover, Bullets are getting away easy with 2 points and 5 clean goals, positioning them in second with a healty goal difference.

Phoenix is currently leading the pack and looking untouchable, second spot is now wide open and is up for grab. With Falcons facing relatively weaker opponents in their final two matches whereas 300 and Bullets still pending a match agianst the league leaders, it may boil down to internal goal differences between the 3 teams to decide who gets a medal. Interesting stuffs.

This is all on paper though, and anything can happen on court. Don't written off the others so soon as well, they might have a trick or two up their sleeves. Focus people!

Jose:
It is really sad that this match had to end as a walkover, because the players from Dalat could not make it on that particular Tuesday. And as a result of this walkover, the title race for the Division 2 crown is now wide open. For me personally, i think that the walkover between Contact vs Dalat has blew the top 3 spots up for grabs. The 3 horse race has now become a 4 horse race.

It is high time for all the 4 medal contenders (Ztec Phoenix, Contact Bullets, Frontliners 300 and Dalat Falcons) to get all fired up as we are coming to the end of the Div 2 season. Where these teams finish at the end of the season will all come down to these remaining fixtures. All 4 medal contenders cannot afford any slip-ups at such a crucial point of the season. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds. Best of luck people!

5 = world class
4 = superb
3 = good
2 = ok ok

Frontliners 300:
Gk:
Soon Khai 3
Had an easy job in the first period but was constantly called onto action in the second when Contact Bullets was firing all cylinder in search of goal.

Defenders:
Sonia Gopal 2

June Kew 2
Like her sister, bold and aggressive for a lady. Never held back even though defending against tough guys.

Tania Loke 2

Attackers:
Michael Cheah 4
Masterful display yet again by the center. Ever present in defending as well as attacking. Capped with 2 goals, one from a solo effort, undeniably the match winner for 300.

Mekanath 3
Put his pace into good use troubling Bullets defenders but other than the goal, was rather slopping in his finishing and passing.

Julian Tan 3
His foray forward proved to be a threat for Bullets. Almost poach in a few goals if not for his poor finish. Need to work on his shots.

Tristen James 2
Julian's other half, but slightly less effective than his partner. Decent game.

Roselyn 2 (played as defender in the second period)

Kenneth Yeap (Did not play enough to be rated)

Verina Ann Lyn (Did not play enough to be rated)

Contact Bullets:
Gk:
Lawrence Tan 3
An improved performance compared to the last. Bullets' margin would have been bigger if not for his saves. Prevented goals from several one on one situations.

Sheryn Ng 3
Best attacker in the team but lack finishing for the day. Hit the cross bar with a long lob/shot.

Match Review: 300 vs Bullets

Frontliners 300 vs Contact Bullets
3-0(1-0, 2-0)

First Period:
05:29 Michael Cheah

Second Period:
21:43 Mekanath ( Julian Tan )
23:10 Michael Cheah

Bench Penalties:
Frontlienrs 300 2mins x 3
Contact Bullets 2mins x 2

Frontliners 300 vs Contact Bullets was a match that definitely wasn't a cut and dry. People were cracking their heads over who would triumph and who would get trumped. Coaches were juicing out their heads over what to do to get their noses in front of the other.

It was an awkward start to the game as the referees blew a bench penalty foul exactly after the face off -- Apparently, 300's Mekanath was sent off for incorrect numbering. First ever of it's kind as long as the pundits can remember!

Not an ideal start for 300, to be down to 4 players and to defend a power play so early in the match. However, slow starters Bullets, like their previous game against Firebrands were unable to find their rhythm. Lacking flow in passing and movement, none of their attempts on goal looked threatening, which made life easy for 300 as they survived the nervy start.

Bullets' sluggish start proved costly when a full-strength 300 punished them on the break. The counter attack from an intercepted blind pass was converted by Michael Cheah who pounced onto the rebound, after Kenneth Yeap's shot from the left flank was blocked by Lawrence.

1-0 with the home side taking a surprise lead.

The goal bolstered 300's confidence and it showed in their obvious aggressive forechecking after the start. Bullets continued to struggle in possession and were impatient, as they pushed for an equaliser. Both teams were now playing hit-and-run, with attacking runs and scoring opportunities all around the court.

300's overall inexperience showed itself, when they were subsequently reduced to three men after two were sent out for incorrect distance when a free hit was awarded against 300 as Soon Khai launch a quick throw outside the crease.

3 vs 5: an overwhelming advantage for the Bullets, but again, in what would become the theme of Bullets' game, they failed to capitalise on it. Hasty shots, no rebounds, and giving up too soon on loose balls made life surprisingly easy for 300. Other than the odd long shot which was comfortably saved by Soon Khai, he remained a relaxed spectator.

With the bench penalties served, 300 upped a gear but lacked the lethal injection needed to add a second goal. All their shots were either off target or saved by an on-song Lawrence.

An eventful half ended with a 1-0 lead for 300.

300 resumed the game in the same manner and almost doubled their lead when Michael's swift retake of Khai Sheng's illegal free hit reached Julian Tan but with only the keeper to beat, his weak shot was saved by Lawrence.

Moments later, Michael's block from Sheryn's free hit sent the ball down the right flank for Julian to chase, and the boy's desperate blind pass somehow reached Mekanath. With the goal and defenders behind his back, he held firm, made a quick turn and drove the ball low past Lawrence's right. There was no denying 300 this time.

300 increased in confidence while Bullets increased in frustration. Lacklustre, half-hearted defending led to the third goal. Michael, winning a tussle with Isaac Ng, stumbled past charging defenders and buried his second, and his team's third, as the ball past Lawrence's near post.

The Bullets continued to press on but were evidently frustrated by a resolute 300 in search of a breakthrough. Temper flared as Ian Khor lost his cool, refusing to back off when a free hit was awarded against him and so got himself sent off for incorrect distance.

With the points almost in hand, 300's main men, Michael and Mekanath were rested more often. This meant that 300 was contained deep in their own half, making things difficult for themselves. Bullets were firing on all cylinders: Isaac Ng came close with a couple of chances; Benjamin Lim and Charmaine also had chances as 300 fumbled defensively.

Bullets again found themselves down to four with an incorrect substitution, giving 300 a rare breather. They were happy to defend their lead and wasted precious seconds holding the ball.

Although reverting to an ultra defensive approach, 300 still looked dangerous on counter attacks. Solo runs by Mekanath and long throws from the goalie often caught Bullets' backline off guard and forced them to backtrack.

In the dying moments, Sheryn, who was always their most lethal forward, came the closest when her audacious, dipping shot hit the post; giving 300 a mighty scare.

Final Score, 3-0. A match that proved to be the most interesting and entertaining by far; what with the bench penalty dramas and pumping adrenaline and end to end Floorball from both sides, but it was Frontliners 300 with the more clinical finishing, who came out tops.

Frontliners 300:
Apparently, the defeat by Falcons last week seemed long gone and forgotten. What made the difference between 300 and Bullets was that 300 were willing to die for every ball; following orders and staying compact. That early goal was definitely a morale and confidence booster that gave them the fire they needed to last the game.

In defence, occasional concentration lapses could prove worrying against more on-fire opponents. The entire team would sometimes just zone out after clearing the ball (which was still in play) and stand around looking. Lucky for them in this match that Bullets also, unexplainably, stood still.

And in offence, 300 sure need some better finishers. The scoreline flattered Bullets, when 300 could have had so many more goals if there had been someone in the center to slot in all those loose balls. Tristan and Julian showed flashes of brilliance, doing all the hard work to get free, but constantly shot anywhere but into the goal.

With a win in hand, can they build on their momentum and upset the odds in coming fixtures?

MoM:
Michael Cheah. He ran the whole show and probably saw more of the ball than all of Frontliners 300 combined. Marshalled the defence as a center as if his life depended on it, and always dangerous on the counter with his drag shot.

Waltzed through Bullets' defence as if it was nonexistent at least twice. Two goals and a win; thoroughly deserved.

Contact Bullets:
While Frontliners 300 seemed more like a two-man show, Bullets made the effort to play as a team. Bullets were supposed to be high on confidence after their 8-0 thumping of Firebrands, but lacked the extra kick in most instances. Hesitant tackling, blocking and failure to compete with 300's energetic display all contributed to their loss.

Although they were a much more balanced team compared to 300, incisive passing and flow was lacking. Clear cut chances were rarely carved out and they could only come up with snap shots and half chances. Creativity was lacking against a stubborn 300. Even when 300 generously gifted them opportunity after opportunity from defensive errors, their finishing was poor and it proved costly.

Overall, the Bullets continue to be slow starters, and to keep their medal hopes alive, they need to up their pace early in the game and make use of the chance that they have.

MoM:
Lawrence. The goalkeeeper came back strong from a not-so-good game against Firebrands and kept the Bullets in the game.

With Bullets' defenders often caught stranded by 300's fast forwards, the keeper made use of his big size and good positioning, denying Julian and Tristan several one on one chances. He was also up for 300's long shots from range.

Although he conceded three, Lawrence saved Bullets the blushes as he saved more than he conceded. A good response from last match's dip in form.

Match Preview: Who's the Giant?

Frontliners 300 vs Contact Bullets

Date: 7th Feb 2009 (Saturday)
Face-off Time: 11am
Venue: Dalat International School

The much talked about match to watch -- The giant against the ant.
But who's the real giant and who's the real ant?

Contact Bullets, leading the pack in the league with a whooping 8 goals difference, are seated in a very comfortable and confident state. On the other hand, Frontliners 300, placing in the 5th position, still has something to prove and are adamant to do so. By the looks of it, Bullets seems to be the giant in this upcoming match.

For 300, it's not all bad news. If one analyses closely enough, one would notice that they do possess several key players that could possibly change the dynamics of the match. Looking at their first outing, they proved to be a force to be reckon with. Although most players are still relatively new, they all definitely possess great spirit. Physiques wise, can't expect much hard bodycheck. Constitute mainly by young players with a good mix of both male and female.

Bullets is definitely one of the most experience teams in the league. Having a full women's line, one would naturally underestimate this "girl power" squad -- Well, don't be fooled. Trained and supervised by the watchful eyes of Penang State and National floorball coach, Edward Lim, you can be sure to expect some good floorball sense from these players. In terms of speed and physique, Bullets and 300 should be pretty equal.

Bullets may have the upperhand in this match but 300 may well reclaim their "gianthood" with a little surprise or two. Definitely one of the more interesting match to watch. Also, expect a lot of screaming, shouting and cheering from the supporters bench!

Key Player:
Frontliners 300:
Mikey. The new kid on the block has shown tremendous interest and potential in the sport. He will be the general to take charge of the centre. A key link for 300 to not only score a goal or two, but to control the game and his team.

Contact Bullets:
Sheryn Ng, experience player that forms the crucial women's line for Bullets. Though she may lack in speed, her understanding for the game proves to be a vital asset. Also, possess some mean shots when she's on form.

Predictions:
Bendy:
A tight one to call after 300 exceptional performance last week but I'll have to go with a narrow win for Bullets being them having a much more balance team compare to 300. Key to victory is to score early and hold off key man Michael and Mekanath. Mark tight or get punished Bullets!

Spritzer:
Honestly, I think it's quite a 50-50 match. But if I had to choose, I'd go for 300. They have a good centre, a speedy forward and a natural keeper. However, their defense seems to be their achilles heel.

Match Review: Fiery Bullets Stings Freshman Firebrands

Contact Bullets vs Firebrands
8-0 (6-0,2-0)

First Period:
05:44 1-0 Ian Khor (Hai Chin)
06:31 2-0 Benjamin Lim (Hai Chin)
07:04 3-0 Sheryn Ng (Ian Khor)
09:11 4-0 Isaac Ng
09:15 5-0 Isaac Ng (Joshua Wong)
14:00 6-0 Ian Khor (Isaac Ang)

Second Period:
23:00 7-0 Hai Chin (Ang Kim Beng)
38:07 8-0 Ian Khor (Sheryn Ng)

Bench Penalties:
Contact Bullets 2x2mins
Firebrands 1x2mins

8 goals went unanswered in the first league match of PFL Div 2 as Contact Bullets cruised to victory against debutant Firebrands. The Bullets large squad started with full strength while Firebrands surprisingly left out a few of the elder players due to internal reasons which proved costly as they were torn apart within minutes of the first period.

It was a shaky start for the Bullets. They were rather unorganised in the early stages of the 1st period, giving Firebrands opportunity to mess around in the hot zone. They would have certainly been punished if they were playing against better teams.

As the clock ticked away, Bullets began to settle down and the Firebrands were given less space to move out from their own half. The first goal scored by Ian Khor, became the turning point of the match. Since then, the goals started to pour in from every corner of the court. Benjamin Lim quickly bagged the second while Sheryn Ng scored the third.

Isaac Ng looked lively as he came on court, scoring 2 well-executed backhand goals in quick succession. Ian Khor then increased his tally before the period ended with Bullets leading 6-0.

Although Contact continued to dominate after the interval, Firebrands’ defense was tighter and less penetrable after the half time team talk. Goalie of the day, Lawrence, was shaky in between the posts, fumbling on numerous occasions. The Bullets look as if they were going to concede when Hai Chin who was in great form (unconsciously) buried the 7th when she directed a shot from the side with her blade in mid air.

After scoring the 7th goal, the players got complacent and made several blunders in defense. Fortunately for them, the Firebrands did not fully capitalize on that due to poor techniques. The Bullets then sealed the score line as Ian Khor completed his hattrick in the final minutes of the match.

Final score 8-0.

Contact Bullets:
Unorganised at the beginning of both periods. Defenders was nervy but settle in well later on by expressing some witty dribbling and threatening passes up front. Watch out for clumsy mistakes in the mid court.

The forwards were on song with countless shots on target denied only by the keeper. It was interesting to see that the majority of the shots were taken with a backhand, a sign that only proves the influence of the backhand master himself at club trainings.

A win as expected with some unexpected inclusion in the team roster.

MoM:
Sheryn Ng. Ian Khor(3+1) and Hai Chin(1+2) might have gotten the headlines, but it was Sheryn Ng who was Bullets’ danger(wo)man. Always dangerous in forward positions and shooting with clear intent. The goals will eventually roll in if she continues to performance.

Firebrands:
Defenders were unclear of their roles, leaving behind a big hole in front of goal for most of the time, leaving all the work to the goalkeeper.

Surprising left out of a few of the more athletic and older players for some internal reasons, Firebrands’ goal scoring chances were near non-existence other than some free chance offered by the Bullets themselves, yet, they were unable to finish.

A spirited performance, but still has a long, long way before displaying some decent Floorball.

MoM:
The score line was not a fair reflection of Firebrand's goalie, Bryan Koh’s performance. The goalie prevented at least twice as much as the goals he conceded. With practically no defense on court, he was constantly called into action. His courageous dive into charging blades and his confidence in both catching and blocking the shots spurred the crowd into life.
Solid game.

Match Preview: Contact Bullets vs Firebrands

Contact Bullets vs Firebrands

Date: 20th January 2009 (Tuesday)
Face-off Time: 7.45pm
Venue: Dalat International School

For the more experience Bullets, it is a game for them to warm up and test their strength. For the Firebrands, a debut match announcing their arrival to the floorball scene. First match in charge for Kenny Khoo with the Bullets, while Coach Jason Chan temporary switches from a F300 to a Firebearer. For the rest of the Floorball family, an eye opener for what is yet to come through out the league.

Looking forward to see Bullets unleash their girl power, finally a full girls line in action in PFL. All the Bullets are well trained and eager to perform. Unlike the Firebrands they know what is expected, ready to fire all the ammo they got.

On the other hand, Firebrands's only possible scoring opition falls on their strongest line, a mix of young adults and teenagers. With kids amidst their bench, can they find cover against Contact's limitless ammo of Bullets?

Key Player:
Contact Bullets:
Sheryn Ng to chip in some goals against the inexperience defense of Firebrands.

Firebrands:
James Tan to power through the Bullets defense and hopefully make some finishes.

Prediction:
Bendy:
It will be a tough game for the defense & goalkeepers at both ends. The Bullets with superior techniques will fire at will but they have to watch out the counter attacks as the Firebrands got some pacey and strong forwards. The difference in technique, experience and squad depth favours the Bullets. Expecting goals from both sides but Bullets to scrap a narrow win against Firebrands.

Jose:
This match should be a stroll in the park for the young Contact Bullets. I foresee them winning by at least 3 goals as I'm predicting Firebrands to go all out against the Bullets, but their efforts will be in vain (maybe scoring 1 or 2 goals). Better finishing and better movement from the more experience Contact players should be able to see off Firebrands and achieve an easy victory over the newly formed team.

Team Preview: Contact Bullets

Contact Bullets (Contact Sports)

Last Season: Division 2 - 3rd out of 4 teams

Division 2 team of Contact Sports this time will be under the guidance of Coach Kenny Khoo.

The players are almost the same like last year, in fact they have a full women’s line. Don't play play, these girls are drilled by "The One" and have been coming regularly for state training, play too much you might kena slap on the face. Watch out for the girl power!

Most likely the only team in this division to play real floorball. (Eh, look who's the coach?) At least expect them to improve a bit with all the retention and regular trainings. Like 300, got girls, got budak-budak, hard to play against physical teams with older, bigger boys. And another thing to expect from Contact would be their loud roaring support from the player's parents and NOT forgetting James "Thunder" Looi.

Key Player:
Sheryn Ng. The most experience player in the team, somemore play so long already. One of the core players in the state team as well. Her ability is well proven in last year’s PFL campaign and last September’s Z’Liner-PFA Floorball Challenge, scoring crucial goals. We expect to see the same thing this year as well lo.

Rising Rookie:
Don. Budak kecik. Second time in the league. Got a lot of potential la. Quite good in control, must have been practising hard. After all the hard work, now is the time to release it all on the court!

Predictions:
Bendy:
3rd. They are medal contenders, definitely mid table kaki. But I think Dalat Falcons and Ztec Phoenix are too tough for them, so bronze achievable la. Silver will be bonus if they can draw with ZPX, but will have to see goal difference lo provided they win the rest. Loads of hard work la, watch out for one or two teams behind that can backstab them for the medal.

Jose:
Contact Bullets in my opinion will finish 3rd. Although this would be their 2nd outing as a team but I feel the lack of size and speed would prove to be their biggest downfall. However looking on the bright side, these 'kids' will once again gain valuable experience when playing with bigger boys. And hopefully they will get better as they get older.
