About Us

What is Borak-Borak Floorball?

Borak-Borak Floorball (BBF) was initiated by a group of three avid floorballers from Penang, Malaysia. The interest sparked off due to a certain passion for the sport and a keen desire to share that passion to others. With that, came the idea of 'borak-borak'.

What does the term "Borak-Borak" actually mean?

"Borak-borak" is a Malaysian lingo that equates to the English word "chit-chat". The phrase is commonly used and has somewhat the power to identify one's identity as a Malaysian. BBF is passionate to 'chit-chat' about the happenings and events of floorball, first in Penang and then the other parts of Malaysia. With that in mind, Borak-Borak Floorball came into existence.

Who are we?

BBF comprises mainly of three suspects under the pseudonyms of Jose, Bendy and Spritzer. However, BBF has also taken in hired-for-free reporters in their effort to cover as many grounds as possible.

NOTE: BBF is not an official website to any organization or governing body. We are merely a group of passionate floorballers who seek to share this passion to others. We strive to be courteous, neutral and honest in our opinions, thoughts, reviews and analyses.

Our vision?

BBF sought to 'talk big' and 'talk much' about floorball. We hope to represent the floorball community in Penang as well as the nation, Malaysia, in the bigger picture. We want to be a voice for floorball in the present and future generation, a voice to be heard not for recognition but for the ultimate growth and development of floorball in Malaysia.

Second Period:

Ztec Phoenix 2mins x 2

This was a civil war.
Battle of between the Ztecs.
Team mate vs Team mate.
Termin vs Oliver and Jo-Wyee.

The Phoenix entered the game as favourites but started off poorly compared to their supposed understudies. Phoenix's inability to retain reasonable possession presented Griffins numerous counter attacks, with Amos bombarding forward constantly in the early minutes.

Their good start was turned sour when Amos was sent off for incorrect substitution and Griffins' defense was severely tested. Phoenix instantly came to life, ceasing advantage of the power play and forced Leo Nard to a superb double save that kept them from drawing first blood.

However, just seconds before Amos’s expiring penalty, a seemingly harmful ground shot from far somehow found it’s way through the crowded mid section and into Leo Nard's net.
0-1 to Phoenix.

Nerves kicked in, confidence boosted, goals to come along?
Unfortunately, No.
Goals fail to multiply, instead both teams find themselves down with 4 after both teams incur back to back bench penalties for incorrect substitution.

Phoenix continued to dominate the half but failed to convert. The half's best chances fell to Daniel and Samuel Ong, both missing glorious chance, unmarked! The rest was denied by the ever present Leo Nard, keeping out shots after shots.

0-1 at the end of the first period. An unconvincing lead by Phoenix.

The Griffins started a nervy second half with Dominic’s bench penalty for lying play but came back strong as they regain full strength. Dominic, as if trying to redeem himself for the earlier sent off came up with some energetic display in attack. His tireless forechecking gave Phoenix defenders a hard time, forcing them into errors. He even came close with an equaliser, squandered a great chance by firing an unguarded free hit just above the crossbar.

Tides were shifting, as the Griffins struggled in vain in search of an equalizer, Phoenix was slowly waking up from its slumber. The Phoenix regain more possession as minutes ticked away, and pinned the Griffins in their own half with waves after waves of attacking, only for the Phoenix’s poor finishing denying them a second.

The Griffins got a rare breather as they were given a corner hit in on the oppnent's half but it turn out to be one they wish they didn't had. The Phoenix have been finding it hard to penetrate Leo Nard, but then the rather scrappy corner, aimlessly taken, fell to Capt Adrian, who didn't need a second invitation, swiftly push up for a counter. He then made a nice push to side evading the incoming defender, swung his the stick and buried the ball fast Leo Nard's far post. The keeper was helpless and barely moved with his view blocked by his own defenders. Finally, the long awaited second goal for the Phoenix.

The third followed soon after. Once again, the Griffins had only hemselves to blame for lacking concentration while executing a free hit inside Phoenix shooting zone. Gim Hoong was to eager to dispatch a quick pass to an unprepared Amos in a better position, Samuel Ong reacted the quickest and made the decisive interception. With the last man beaten, Samuel went on a short solo run before injected a lethal finish (which was sorely missing throughout the game) pass the top form Leonard.

Three goals down and with nothing to lose, the Griffins showed the much lacking desire and intent, going all gung ho in the final 10 minutes. Gim Hoong, the pacey defender even push up into attack in desperation. Phoenix held firmed in defense but yet again squandered marvelous chances to pull of with a bigger margin.

Final score 0-3. With Phoenix coming up top of Griffins with a rather disappointing score line.

Ztec Griffins:
Started of brightly on both halves but gradually fade away and was contained within their half for the most of the game.

The back line held firm as they rely solely on Gim Hoong and Brandon as defenders, and occasionally a short rotation with center, Amos. It was a bold gamble by the coach as all three were rarely substituted. Reflecting at the score line, it would be fair to say that it was well taken, as the boys together with the solid Leo Nard kept Phoenix out.

Up front, it was Amos running a solo show, lining up with ever changing forward pairs. Other than Dominic and Daniel who performed better in the second half, attacking threats main came from the counter attacks runs by the three. Most of the girls coming in as forwards were merely making numbers as they were physically overpowered and failed to impact the game.

With Leo Nards super saves, the Griffins almost managed to suck in and held on to the one goal deficit, but silly mistakes form set pieces gifted the Phoenix the second and third.

A near "world class" performance by Leo Nard and good performance for Griffins. The team looks decent at the back but only when they are playing the duo(Gim Hoong and Brandon). Firepower is badly insufficient as the forwards are not competitive enough, came close to scoring at a few occasion but lack experience to finish it.

In a nut shell, the team is overrelying on the trio(Gim Hoong, Brandon and Amos) but it may be a tatical decision against a stronger opponent. Hopefully, the other players might can more opporturnities to perform in coming matches against other teams.

MoM:
Not doubt whatsoever! Leo Nard. The keeper singlehandedly kept Griffins in the game until conceding the last two. Still very new to the game, his techiques might not be conventional and rather funny with his lightning dives, but they were effective enough and kept the balls out, which was what mattered most.

Jose, the goalie expert thought that he could have done better with the first, which creep under his legs and into the net. Nevertheless, a superb game for Leo Nard.
Keep up the good work!

Ztec Phoenix:
A disappointing performance from the far superior Phoenix, whom the panel foresees to be medal contenders. The game suggests they might have to review their predictions!

Yes, they won the match but their finishing was severely lacking. Much credit should be given to Leo Nard and Co. but still, Phoenix had enough chances to pull away with a bigger margin if not for the misses.

This team has the speed to even trouble some of the Div 1 teams, but lack incisive break throughs with their poor passing and finishing. Dominating possessions for large periods of time, the Phoenix finally killed off the game only because of the Griffin’s “free gift” double error from set pieces.

Definitely an underpar performance, but this might just be their 'warm up' match against their own club mates. With an experience keeper behind who barely flexed his muscles in the match, and a balanced team in all departments, Phoenix is still the team to watch out for, if they hit top gear in coming matches.

MoM:
Daniel. This boy is here for a reason. And on the night when the others struggle to perform, the boy catches the eye. Always in the right positions at the right time either to take a shot or receive a pass, Daniel possesses Floorball senses and grace the court with unimaginable confidence for someone his age.

Definitely a star in the making with a lot of room for improvement. Releasing of the ball would boost the team if it can get any faster, taking opportunities on his fast team mates who are always eager to pounced on incoming ball in the shooting zone.
